INSTE CORNER

The INSTE class will be studying the first eleven chapters of Revelation this week.  It is a varied portion of scripture dealing with John’s opening remarks in chapter one, the messages to the seven churches in chapters 2 and 3 and then the prophetic visions in chapters 4 through 11.    One of the truly interesting thoughts in this section is the place that John says that he is as this revelation from the Lord is given to him.  In Revelation 1:9 he says “I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (NJK)  The manner in which John indicates his location shows that it was not a very well known place in which he was residing.  In fact it is traditionally believed that he was there as a prisoner of Rome serving a sentence because of his testimony for the Lord Jesus Christ. But even on this small, rocky island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of present day Turkey, John was not forgotten by God.  For on the Lord’s Day, as John was in the Spirit, Jesus in His majesty and glory visited him.  He was given this marvelous revelation of events many of which are yet to come to pass.  The same is true for us today.  No matter where you are, you are not forgotten by God.  He knows your address even if it is a little apartment seemingly lost among so many others in a large city somewhere, or off on a farm isolated from any neighbors.  He knows where you are and wants to make Himself known to you.Be alert to His voice and presence calling you.

INSTE CORNER

This week the INSTE students will be beginning a new course which studies the two prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation.  The first of the four lessons will cover Daniel 1-6. The most important spiritual truth covered in this section is the dedication of the three Hebrew children—Shadrack, Mechack and Abednego.  In spite of the threats of King Nebuchadnezzar, they would not bow their knee to the idol which he had erected. Their statement that even if they should die in the fiery furnace they would not worship anyone but God Almighty, shows tremendous consecration to God. We may not be threatened with death but are we willing to live totally all out for God.
